Bajaj GLS : Packaging
Needs:
Bajaj, as a company, has a good share in the electronics and consumer durables field. With some technological
advancement, they needed a new packaging scheme for all the GLS lamps and other lamps manufactured. The earlier
blue shade used for their packaging was very much in the way of following the leader. The client needed a direct
communication with the customers through this packaging - and the message selected was "more presence in the end
users' daily life".
The product should look technologically advanced than the earlier version, as it was really
enhanced in some fields. |

Challenges:
Electric bulb wrappers are printed on economy quality of paper or boxes on duplex board. The
design had to meet this technical optimization. There should be proper guidelines and notes
for the printing concerns allover India. Same design scheme will be applied for packing high end
products like CFL. And the end customer may not be comfortable with English. |

Solutions:
We designed a bi-color carton with minimal use of mid tones, so that the bulk printing becomes easier and cost effective.
Specific shades of mauve and black were the colors chosen for their higher visibility. Yellow was used as third color
for the bulbs with brass base. Warm color, contrast and Bold Logo were used for a definite identity in the stores. The
graphics of families in the illuminated oval carried the direct communication of the product with the happy moments.
Product photo was redesigned and the difference in bases like BC22 or ES27 was highlighted to avoid any confusion. At
the bottom flap of the pack, the technical specifications were elaborated like any advanced engineering product.
2 out of 6 surfaces were used for communication in Hindi. Here we demonstrated the major points like the brand name,
wattage and the slogan, in Hindi.
Client required a gift pack design for 20 bulbs, as this packaging was an instant hit for Diwali 2004.
